It’s complicated

July 21st, 2010 Posted in Random

The story here: http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2010/7/21/nation/6700311&sec=nation

The summary:

A is 5 months pregnant. B wants to marry A and take care of A and her baby. But A and B had never met before.

C is A’s ex-boyfriend and also the father of A’s baby. C is willing to get back with A and take care of the baby but A didn’t want to get back with C. A only wants C to bare the costs of taking care of the baby.

Personally, I think either C is a really bad guy or A is too picky.

On another matter, if you are single (and seeking) and see someone’s (whom you might be interested in) relationship status in Facebook or Friendster as “it’s complicated”, would you think he/she as available or not?

Consumer Report’s on iPhone 4′s Antenna Issue

July 15th, 2010 Posted in Gadgets Tags:

Consumer Reports has recently just released a report which somehow “proved” that the iPhone 4 does have a signal drop issue when a person hold the phone or touch the phone at the particular (bottom left) area.

But an EMC engineer disagree with the report, saying that CR (short for Consumer Reports) didn’t used a controlled environment for the tests, thus, the results are not to be taken as valid.

While I may not be an EMC, EME, RF or an antenna engineer, I do know my way around the lab, the equipments and RF testing. Working right next to all 3 EME, EMC and RF labs does give me enough experience to comment on this.

First of all, controlled tests are always good to reproduce accurate and repeatable results to measure the performance of the device. This is important as to show that the device complies with regulations and does not interfere with other signals. For example, SAR tests performed by EME labs measures the rate at which energy is absorbed by the body when exposed to a radio frequency (RF) electromagnetic field. Too much, and it’s considered dangerous for humans. EMC tests on the other hand, will test the radiation pattern and power of the device in a controlled room where RF noise are shielded and reflections absorbed. Humans aren’t supposed to be inside and even the attached measuring instruments outside the room are shielded.

The problem with all these very expensive, accurate and exhaustive testing is, although they try to reproduce real world issues as much as possible, it’s still a controlled test up to a certain degree of acceptance. They can never be able to capture a full range of problems which can happen in real world environment. There are too many things which can happen outside the lab and there are always reasons why all these electronic devices have updated hardware revisions.

New tests are always developed to reproduce those reported issues to try to determine the cause and action needed. If the problem is hard to reproduced in the controlled environment, then it’s further escalated to R&D to capture the problem on the board level.

What Apple is doing on the other hand, is trying to blame others for their problem. Are Apple’s engineers really working on a fix is anyone’s guess but everyone should always take those Consumer reports with a pinch of salt. It’s not a controlled test. But every “Professionals” should also never ignore the public opinion even when the problem is not done through controlled environment. A problem is still a problem and an engineer’s job is to provide solutions to a problem. Not to provide excuses!

I Kinda Hate and Love the internet Now

July 15th, 2010 Posted in Internet

When the web evolved to become web 2.0, I started to love the idea that websites can be so dynamic and become more like a desktop application. AJAX based websites and templates came out like mushrooms and more and more websites are developed with API access to interact with other websites or web apps. Phones were able to keep getting updates from the internet and social websites are becoming more then just a circle of friends sharing files.

But what happened now? Instead of many websites with very unique style and functionality, almost everything around the net nowadays are somehow related to Facebook, Twitter and Google. :x

I love it because it has grown into such as powerful medium of information and communication. I hate it because choice is so lacking lately.

Digi slashes rates for iPhone plans

July 7th, 2010 Posted in Gadgets Tags: , , ,

Digi has recently slashed the monthly fees for their iPhone plans. Usually, this mean that Digi is planning on releasing something new to replace the current range. Could it be the new iPhone4? Maxis has also recently added the Samsung Galaxy S to their range of Android offerings, so could Digi be planning on release a couple of Android plans as well? I really hope they bring in some more Android phones to Malaysia as we’re really lacking some real useful mobile applications in this country.

Grow you damn blog!

July 7th, 2010 Posted in Internet, Personal Tags:

There’s a big problem with my blog which makes it unable to grow into a bigger, better blog. It’s a personal blog, and personally, I’m not a very exiting person. I don’t have nice stories to tell, nor do I travel or eat a lot. I basically do the same things daily, eat the same things daily, get into the same argument daily and blog about the same things daily.

I’ve always wanted to create another blog either related to technology, food or traveling, but I can’t. I do not have the resources nor the budget to even do it.

I did try to get into a local project before which failed miserably. The “last man standing” on that project has taken over the entire project and turned the website into a photography blog. It was kind of good and I was happy for him since I thought him how to use WordPress. But it seems that he has become inactive as well… That blog’s domain is going to expire soon. Will my old partners update it? I wonder.

Today’s Rant

July 6th, 2010 Posted in Personal

Yet again, no mood to work right after I stepped into the office. I don’t really know what kind of environment is this to work in. It’s not even a big office but it’s far from being cozy. It’s not relaxing and it’s not quiet.
And if it’s not quiet, it’s not even packed with inspiring people to work with, no enthusiasm mood and no main focus for success.

I’m also awaiting a call from a company. Sigh, they haven’t call me yet. :(

It’s been a long time since I’ve practiced in this exercise. Which is to set small personal goals for myself to achieve each day. Lets see how it turns out today. :)

  1. Complete Features and Bug Fix on ConSpur Extractor
  2. (Done) Update and forward my Resume
  3. Prepare required documents for interview(s)
  4. Consolidate and tidy up email’s Inbox

Network 21. Question Mark

July 2nd, 2010 Posted in Personal

Someone called my friend a few days ago asking to meet up for a discussion of a business opportunity. By Business opportunity, you’d think it probably a partnership, project for you to do, or they just want to scam you.

We meet up the person yesterday night and started off with a friendly introduction about how she has a day job and always thinking of earning extra as emergency backup and to help support her family. I was already getting the idea that this is no ordinary business proposal or a project presentation.

Then, she took out her laptop and started a power point slide and the first slide showed us a question about how “happy” we are with our current financial status. The basic starting point for any MLM introduction. I was like “FUCK!” but just tried to endure the session as I am not brave enough to rudely reject her on the spot.

So now, what I got is, network 21 is a company which has some sort of link with Amway, it’s a motivational and educational MLM company which teaches the members how to do business properly and I can’t really figure out any logic on how Network 21 actually get their money from.

Damn…

It’s back to working on the extractors again. It’s totally boring and not motivating at all. I’d just wish to get over with this.

Perhaps I’ll blog later about one of the extractor I’m working on. If you actually find it interesting, PLEASE send me your resume so I can send it to my boss!
