You know, I thought I’d thought when the internet came into my life, life would change from being non-connected to connected. That means I could install MIRC and ask anyone with a female nick ASLR wanna meet?
Who would have known the internet changed so much in the past decade? The first big change for me was instant messaging. IRC was so troublesome that you never know people was trying to talk to you unless you were in the IRC window. And you’ll never know if your friend is online or not in IRC until you search the channel and didn’t see their usual nick.
ICQ was invented and it was cool. Everyone was introducing themselves and exchanging ICQ numbers in school then. Who didn’t have ICQ then was equivalent to who didn’t use Facebook now.
Then there was this time when MSN came out, broadband was introduced to Malaysia and everyone can spend a lot of time visiting and posting in online forums. That was the time when people started posting things like WTF? OMG! LOL!. Those ASL, BRB, AFK stuff was slowly fading away into memories.
After awhile, simply posting stuff like WTF became lame and you’d probably seen words like WTFOMGBBQ! posted somewhere before in the forums. I never bother to find out what it actually meant and why they wanted to post such lame words. But to them, people who don’t understand those words are fresh to the internet.
Then came 9gag… That’s probably when I decided that the internet has been taken over by aliens and slowly brain washing every internet users to speak their language. Because this time, their posts are not limited to chat rooms or forums only, there are all over the blogs, social networks, forums, and even stage shows in public…
WTF?
